Inspiring Football Legend of India :- Sunil Chhetri!




  • India’s National game is Hockey (Unofficial). But majority of people is interested in watching & playing cricket. Now the trend is changing, everyone is interested in all games. Mainly Girls ratio is increasing in sports, which is a great sign for country development. As we all know Football, Kabaddi, Badminton, Shooting, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Boxing etc. are gaining lot of importance now a days. India won 66 medals and stood in 3rd position in Commonwealth Games 2018.


  • Coming to Football in India, Many of us interested in supporting & cheering for Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr etc. But in our India we to have our great hero and only Football lovers know about him & his achievements; he is none other than Sunil Chhetri.


Today we are going to present you article about our Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri.

  • Early Life: - Sunil Chhetri was born on 3 August 1984 to K.B. Chhetri, an officer in the Electronics and Mechanical Engineers Corps of the Indian Army, and Sushila Chhetri in Secunderabad, Telangana. His father played for the Indian Army's team while his mother and her twin sisters played for the Nepal women's national team. Chhetri started playing football from a young age taking part in various tournaments.

  • Achievements & Awards: -  

·         Received Arjuna Award in 2011.



·         Awarded as AIFF player of the year for 4years(2007, 2011, 2013, 2014) (AIFF:- All India Football Federation)

·         Awarded as FPAI Indian Player of the Year in 2009 (FPAI:- Football Player’s Association of India)

·         Awarded as Most valuable Player in Asian Football Confederation-2008 (AFC)

·         Awarded as Player of the Tournament in South Asia Football Federation -2011(SAFF)

·          Awarded as Hero of the India Super League in 2017-18

·         And Sunil Chhetri stood at 3rd place along with David Villa in Top 5 active goal scorers in International football.

·         In his First International tournament (2007 Nehru Cup), he scored 4 goals which helped India to win the cup after 1997.

·         In 2008 SAFF Championship, Chhetri scored 2 goals which helped India to reach finals. (In Finals India lost against Maldives)

·         In 2008 AFC Challenges cup, Chhetri scored 4 goals out of that he scored Hat-trick goal against Tajikistan that to in Finals which helped India to lift the cup. With that victory India qualified for 2011 Asian cup after 24years.

·           Chhetri scored and assisted in a 4-1 home win against MACAU in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, with this win India qualified for ASIAN CUP 2019.

·         And many more achievements













  • It is very sad to see that Chhetri had posted a video in twitter stating to encourage them. It is very sad and shame on us to hear that words from legend. Click the link for video!
  • Now it’s time for all of us to stand and support our Football team in Intercontinental Cup 2018 held in Mumbai, India. Today match is between India and Kenya. Sunil Chhetri’s 100th appearance for India.
